You Don’t Know What You’ve Got Till It’s Gone

When it comes to Earth Day sentiments, Joni Mitchell’s refrain nailed it: Don’t it always seem to go/ that you don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone/ Pave paradise/ put up a parking lot. That’s why Big Yellow Taxi is considered the #1 Earth Day Song, and that’s why Taxi will be the Hags final number next Saturday the 16th at Lawless Park. In addition to Mother Earth, we want to pay homage to Joni, an inspiring songwriter, guitarist, musician and painter. Okay, she’s an awesome human being. Here’s something I found on Wikipedia that you might not know: While some of Mitchell’s most popular songs were written on piano, almost every song she composed on the guitar uses an open, or non-standard, tuning; she has written songs in some 50 tunings, playing what she has called “Joni’s weird chords”.
